It’s almost that time again… Targa Tasmania 2012 is almost upon us.
Here’s a little reminder of what goes on from Ben’s great highlights video of last year.
Featuring, of course, MX5 Racing’s NC (and, it must be noted, a very sideways TVR!).

Featuring some great shots of one of the MX5 Racing NCs on some of the Targa Tasmania stages. We are happy to give a shout out to Targa Racing as we have sampled their wares first hand, and these wares, they are good.

Targa Wrest Point is almost upon us again.
So, following on from the last video, here is some more great coverage of the recent Targa Tasmania 2011, from MX5 Road Rallyers Ben & Alex.
It is probably safe to say that, at any given time, there is a Roadster racing somewhere. The combination of low cost, light weight and a readily tuned rear wheel drive chassis is a great recipe for grassroots Motorsport.
One even that has risen to prominence over the years in Australia is Targa Tasmania. Such is this rise that this famous road rally has now spawned a smaller companion event, Targa High Country. We are fortunate enough to have a few Roadster driving associates competing at this year’s event, and they have taken some time out to report on their adventures.
Two Roadster drivers adventure through Victoria’s High Country.

In it’s second year Targa High Country hosted out of Mt Buller has become an accessible and popular motor sport event. This year seven MX-5’s have been entered, ranging from the Targa Racing’s Showroom classed NC’s through to Owen and Chris Boak’s Turbo NB Monster with over 200rwkw.

The beginning prologue stage was an easy two minute blast through the streets of Mansfield, a chance for crews to get a feel for the event. This is followed by Targa Fest, an event that allows rally fans to get up close with cars and crews.
While Day 1 was a short day for co-driver Alex Hailstone with barely two minutes spent in competition, it was a far bigger day for fellow roadster enthusiast Ben Sale. After taking up the challenge of making a daily Targa highlights video he might be starting to regret it, as it would be nice to stop and take it all in! However the opportunity to meet Targa Champions is just too hard to pass up!
The Mx-5’s (both the competition and camera cars) have been running well up and down the dream road that is Mt Buller. We’re both looking forward to the next two days with some awesome roads and stories sure to come!
